I’m Rachel and I own and run Rachelle’s (formerly Planet Cake).
Cake. It can be wicked, a food lovers heaven and a dieters hell. We should eat it in moderation, but never do. I love it, I think about it, dream about it, not just eating it, but cooking it, creating it and my favourite part of all....decorating it.
To me it is a love and a passion brought about by an extended family of food lovers and a flair for design. I was brought up in the beautiful Welsh countryside, a place where I hold all of my most treasured childhood memories. Here my Father taught me to grow my own produce and cook the most amazingly tasty food.
My career did not initially lead me to the kitchen, but to the drawing board in London where I carved out a successful career in design. After obtaining a First Class Honours Degree in Theatre Design I went on to become a freelance Set Designer and Art Director working in Film and TV as well as Advertising and Interiors.
15 years later, a combination of both of my passions led to the birth of Rachelle’s.
I now design and build edible masterpieces from my beautiful South London studio. Each one made with an exquisite attention to detail. I even have my own urban chickens that assist in the making!
My team and I have built up a strong reputation within the Wedding Industry, with my work featuring regularly within many of the leading Bridal titles. We provide an immaculate level of service and supply cakes to some of Londons most prestigious Hotels. And in 2010 I was honoured to be nominated one of three Finalists at the Baking Industry Awards, ‘Celebration Cake Maker of the Year’.
Cake is such a simple thing. It brings such joy to those lucky enough to witness the demolition. There are so many occasions and excuses for making a cake, that we could make a reason for baking and eating one every day.
